Guillermo Ochoa and Ajaccio Suffer Loss to Nice 3-0

Forced to play a little more than half the game a man down, Ajaccio and Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa could not hold off Nice, which recorded a 3-0 victory in French Ligue 1 on Sunday. The result left both teams with 1-3-2 record, a week after Ajaccio recorded its first Ligue 1 win since it was promoted to the top flight last season. Ajaccio's Johan Cavalli was red-carded as he was called for a penalty kick in the 43rd minute. The hosts took advantage of the extra man, as Argentine defender Fabian Monzon converted a penalty kick past Ochoa a minute into first-half stoppage time. The visitors kept within striking distance until Monzon put in his second penalty in the 87th minute and another Argentine defender, Renato Civelli, found the back of the net in the 89th minute.

Guillermo Ochoa Still Solid For AC Ajaccio

The Mexican international goalkeeper made seven saves in AC Ajaccio's first French Ligue 1 victory a 3-1 win over Valenciennes FC. While it is early in the season, Ajaccio (1-2-2) moved out of the relegation zone and into 15th place. As well as Ochoa played, he wasn't perfect as Gael Danic scored on him in the 36th minute.

Guillermo Ochoa Still Making Saves, but Ajaccio Continues to Struggle

It is well known that a striker can squander scoring opportunities all game long and wind up the hero by scoring in the final minute. Well, the opposite can work for a goalkeeper.

He might not see very many scoring opportunities from the opposition, but when he does, especially at the end of a tight contest, he better be ready. That was exactly the case for Mexican international keeper Guillermo Ochoa in French Ligue 1 on Saturday.

With his team deadlocked with Evian TG FC in the 90th minute, Ochoa produced a solid save on Jerome Leroy’s free kick to preserve a 1-1 home draw. The tie left newly promoted Ajaccio (two points) in 17th place out of 20 teams with a 0-1-2 record. Evian (1-0-2, five points) is in sixth place.

After Frederic Sammaritano had given the hosts a one-goal edge in the seventh minute, Kevin Berigaud equalized in the 74th minute against Ochoa.

Guillermo Ochoa Making impact on Ajaccio

It took only two matches, but Mexican international goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa already has made an impact with his new Ajaccio teammates in French League 1.

Ochoa and the newly promoted team walked out of Stade Gerland stadium with a valuable point after surprising favored Olympique Lyon in a 1-1 tie in French Ligue 1 action on Saturday.

Ochoa was outstanding in the match, making several acrobatic saves to keep Ajaccio in the game. He was credited with two saves and seven blocked shots against Lyon, which has a 16-match unbeaten streak at home.

"Given the number of chances and the shots against the posts, we should have been crushed, no question," Olivier Pantaloni said. "But we fought with the weapons we have. We hunkered down, we ran and we defended as best we could – especially Ochoa, who had a huge match."

Ochoa did not have much time to practice with his team as he played for Mexico in its 1-1 draw with the United States in an international friendly in Philadelphia, Pa. on Wednesday.
Ochoa flew back to France on Thursday, practiced with his team on Friday and played the next day.
