Apparently the United States (or Tim Howard) are sore losers.

First, I think it is important to say that the only people the U.S. Soccer Team should be upset with is themselves. They scored two yearly goals against arguably one of the best soccer squads on the planet, then collapsed. I am not a fan of comparing sports, but if this was a basketball game, the United States wasted away a 25 point lead.

Secondly, I am a fan of the U.S. squad. Donovan is great and Dempsey is good too, and actually, Tim Howard is arguably one of the better goal keepers. By no means am I saying what Howard said is a reflection of the larger team. But, the facts remain, Americans are just not soccer fans and apparently their soccer team can't handle pressure.

Why were people shocked to hear the United States being booed? And why do they think that the U.S. needs to be cheered regardless of their location in the United States? The Rose Bowl was packed with El Tri fans. I mean, the game was in Southern California for crying out loud, I would be surprised if the U.S. got booed in Ohio, but not California. Furthermore, if U.S. fans booed their own team, that would be surprising, not rival fans booing their competitors.

Really, the only explanation for the comments made by Howard, and others around the blogosphere, is that the United States are sore losers. It sounds childish, but it's true. Not the entire country of course, just a few loud voices. After being booed, then blowing a HUGE lead, proved to be too much for the American club.  Maybe I am too relaxed about the whole situation, but really, hopefully people realize that despite their best efforts, the U.S. is just not a nation united behind soccer.
