Honduras could prove to be Mexico's toughest test

Mexico is set to face Honduras tonight at 10:00pm ET at Reliant Stadium. This matchup could prove to be Mexico's toughest test yet. We all saw Guatemala take a quick lead on Mexico and force El Tri to really flex their muscles and pull out a win. With this in mind, Honduras has the players to make El Tri battle for every position and shot opportunity.

“Honduras doesn’t have just one weapon,” said Mexico head coach José Manuel de la Torre, who is still undefeated in his short tenure with the national team. “It’s a team that has done things well, is strong, is fundamentally sound and is managed well. It’s not just about one player. It’s a good team that has gotten where they are today based on merit.”

After the scare with Guatemala, I expect Mexico to take Honduras as serious as any opponent to date. Stunned by finding themselves down, Mexico played hurriedly, resulting in bad touches and a sense of desperation that finally subsided when Aldo de Nigris tied things up in the 48th minute and Javier “Chicharito” Hernández scored the eventual winner in the 66th.

“We always analyze our games, looking to correct situations that presented themselves,” he said. “When one errs, the first thing one must do is recognize that they’ve made a mistake to be able to make a change.”

Mexico is clearly making those changes. Sources are saying Mexico has been drilling tirelessly on PK's. Because de la Torre believes there might be a chance the game will come down to such a decision. If so, that would be a great way to end a very anticipated match, I guess to night we shall see is Mexico returns to form.

How do you see this match playing out? BE BOLD, make a prediction!
