Victor Ortiz gets “coming-of-age” fight against Mayweather

Although rummors have been swirling wether this fight was going to take place, it seem Floyd Mayweather will take on Victor Ortiz. Staying true to Mayweather's comeback approach, he draws Ortiz who is no cupcake. Ortiz is the newly crowned welterweight title holder after a magnificent fight against Andre Berto on April 16. Berto was a serious fighter and his defeat should not be understated. So, after Ortiz took out the welterweight champion of five years, no body really expected Ortiz next matchup would be Mayweather, not even Bob Arum apparently.

Regardless, it seems this fight is going to happen and for Ortiz this fight could be a career defining match. Some are calling this a "coming-of-age" match, I agree, but this fight is not going to reveal something to Ortiz that he already didn't know. Rather, if Ortiz can takeout the undefeated Mayweather he will set himself up for a bright, very bright, future. If Ortiz takes a loss, then it could prove detrimental to a blossoming career. Either way, this fight will be a fun one to watch and the stakes are high on both sides of the ring.
