Former heavyweight title contender "The Nightmare" Chris Arreola will make his boxing debut in Mexico when he fights Alonzo Butler November 5 at Domo De La Feria in Leon, Guanajuato.
Arreola (32-2, 28 KOs), a Mexican-American from Riverside (CA) who has shed more than 20 pounds, won his fourth fight of the year July 9 when he trumped Nigerian Friday "The 13th" Ahunanya by a convincing unanimous decision at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
"It's hard to explain my feelings about fighting in Mexico," Arreola, 30, told ESPN.com. "It's like I'm thrilled because of their love for real fighters, but at the same time, it is important for me to put on a great show and live up to those expectations. It truly is a great honor to fight in Mexico and to box in a true Mexican environment.”
Arreola, who captured the National Golden Gloves championship as a light heavyweight at 20 in 2001, is an extremely talented fighter who is a force in the squared circle when properly conditioned.
Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KOs), the Ring Magazine, IBF, IBO and WBO king, recently mentioned he’d like to scrap Arreola.
Klitschko has now emerged victorious in 14 consecutive bouts, and lost only a handful of rounds, since Lamon Brewster defeated him by a fifth round TKO in April 2004.
Mike Cappiello, who earned the New England super featherweight title in 1990 and finished his professional career with an impressive record of 33-6, believes Klitschko can be beaten.
"Wladimir Klitschko can be beat," said Cappiello, the owner of Cappiello Brothers Boxing in Brockton (Mass). "He is always on the outside not wanting to be hit because he knows his chin isn't the greatest."
In order for Chris Arreola to throw fists in the future with the giant Ukrainian, “The Nightmare” must “put on a great show” and batter Butler “in a true Mexican environment” in three weeks.
