Tecos Surprises Santos Laguna with 5-2 Victory

Santos had its impressive run of form snapped in stunning fashion as Tecos registered the biggest win of the round. After Santos had fought back from red card and a 2-0 deficit, the home side hit back with a three-goal flurry in the final seven minutes of the game.

American striker Herculez Gomez was Tecos' hero in the early stages of the match, netting in the third minute and once again in the 16th. The first came as Gomez got across to tap in a slow header in front of goal, while the second was equally opportunistic as Gomez found himself at the far post to finish a rebound with the outside of his foot.

After the quick openers, Tecos managed to put a stranglehold on the visitors for the rest of the first half, playing solid defense and gaining a man advantage when Rodolfo Salinas saw red for a sloppy challenge on Jorge Zamogilny. However, the momentum shifted early in the second half as Darwin Quintero used his pace to get on the end of a ball over the top and finish powerfully three minutes in.

Santos even looked like it might be able to steal a point or three when Jorge Estrada equalized in the 70th minute with a powerful right-footed finish from outside the area, but Tecos, on the back of a superb showing from Argentine midfielder Rubens Sambueza, answered in style, scoring three goals in the space of four minutes to seal the win.

The first came through substitute Braulio Luna, as he turned in a free kick with his first touch of the game. Sambueza then set up to second, squaring for Eduardo Lillingston, who benefited from a clever dummy by Jose Reyes to finish. Sambueza finished off the rout himself, taking advantage of a rebound to send a curling finish into the top corner.
