United States looks to even the score against Mexico in Philadelphia

There will be nothing “friendly” about Wednesday’s match at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia when Mexico again meets the United States for the second time in as many months. Watch for another great battle, as the USMNT will be looking to recover after suffering a devastating 4-2 loss at the hands of El Tri in the Gold Cup Final.

After mounting a quick 2-0 lead with goals by Michael Bradley and Landon Donovan, the United States crumbled under the constant offensive attack lead by Mexico’s “Fab Four” (Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, Giovani dos Santos, Pablo Barrera and Andres Guardado).

Tim Howard was not alone in expressing his eagerness to return to the field following this humbling loss in front of 90,000 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Despite being left on the bench, New York Red Bulls defender Tim Ream also wants to settle the score against the United States’ biggest rival.

Goal.com quoted Ream stating; “There is definitely still a sour feeling after being up 2-0 against [Mexico] in the Gold Cup final. Being able to go up against them again so quickly after a tough loss, I think there is a lot more motivation. Personally I want to get out there, take it to them, and get revenge on them.”

Unfortunately for Ream, and the rest of the U.S. squad, all of Mexico’s Gold Cup Final scorers will return to the pitch to keep any U.S. thoughts about revenge at bay. Led by the young attacking trio of Giovani dos Santos, Pablo Barrera and Andres Guardado, the Mexican national team will be looking repeat their performance that led Mexico to Gold Cup glory. So, just because Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is out, don’t expect El Tri to take it easy on the United States.

Watch for a constant offensive barrage from the Mexican squad as dos Santos will work to get scoring opportunities early. Additionally, the United States will find it difficult to navigate a stingy El Tri defense that will create the signature Mexican counterattack. So, expect Mexican strikers Omar Arellano and Oribe Peralta to get space and give the U.S goalkeepers a long night in the box.
