By the time the cage door slams shut on November 12th, it will have been 13 months since Cain Velasquez trounced Brock Lesnar to capture the UFC heavyweight title. Now that his surgically repaired shoulder is good-to-go, Velasquez is chomping at the bit to break in his new hardware.
The 29-year-old makes his first title defense when he meets Junior dos Santos at UFC on FOX. 5thround.com caught up with the champ after Tuesday’s press conference in Los Angeles where he discussed a barrage of topics, including his angst to get back to action, the privilege of headlining the company’s primetime debut, as well as the pressures of performing after UFC president Dana White’s guarantee.
Velasquez also shares his thoughts on the heavyweight top contender bout between Lesnar and Alistair Overeem at UFC 141.
UFC on FOX takes place inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
