According to Top Rank CEO, Bob Arum, the fight against Cotto will be set either on October 1st or October 8th. On Saturday, Chavez captured the middleweight title becoming the first Mexican to win the belt at 160 pounds. Cotto is the current 154-pound champion of the WBA. However, it is still unclear whether Cotto will go up to the full middleweight limit.
Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. seemed concerned about his son's next challenger.
"[Julio] will have to work even harder for that commitment. Everybody knows that Cotto has improved greatly and the last thing we want to do is go in there being overconfident."
I might have to agree with Julio Sr. because Cotto can still bring it despite his recent loss to Pac Man. Although I am not convinced Cotto can stand the Chavez's power either, so this should make for an interesting matchup.
