Monterrey roared to a three-goal lead, then held off a late rally to edge Atlante 3-2 Saturday at Estadio Tecnologico.
Cesar Delgado staked the Rayados to a 2-0 lead with goals in the 26th and 62nd minutes. Jesus Eduardo Zavala added what turned out to be the game-winner in the 74th.
Sonny Guadarrama started Atlante’s comeback in the 70th minute, and Giancarlo Maldonado made it a one-goal game seven minutes later. The visitors were unable to equalize even after Monterrey’s Neri Cardozo was sent off in the 81st minute.
Neither team qualified for the Liguilla. Monterrey (7-3-7) finished in 11th place with 24 points, Atlante in the 14 spot at 5-4-8 (19).
